Linton Quarry near Ross on Wye, is a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) designated for its geology because it exposes an unusual unconformity in the Ludlow series of Silurian rocks. Currently very overgrown, the owners have consulted the H&W Earth Heritage Trust (EHT) and the Herefordshire Wildlife Trust on how it might be developed to preserve and expose the geology, encourage wildlife, combat climate change and provide a recreational amenity for local people.
If this goes ahead, we can perhaps look forward to another interesting ‘site to visit’ in the next year or so.
